Mastronardi Produce/SUNSET® traceability program enables us to trace all products back to the country of origin, state or region within that country, and the greenhouse within that state or region. At the greenhouse, produce is identified with a product labeling unit (PLU) indicating the growing farm, date of harvest and commodity name. The information is labeled on each product box or container along with the country of origin.
EXAMPLE:

As the tagged product enters a SUNSET® warehouse, pallet tags are assigned and the original product identification stays with each unit through packing. Finished product is labeled according to customer specifications and regulatory requirements.
Our traceability program is electronically maintained through an online inventory system. We also conduct mock product recalls annually to verify the effectiveness of the Mastronardi Produce/SUNSET® traceability program. The purpose of our company’s traceability program is to be capable of tracing produce from farm to fork. The program allows us to react with accuracy and rapid timing so that we can minimize the effect of a food safety hazard to the general public and protect our customers.
